Driver slams into state police patrol car.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- State police are searching for the driver of a car that hit the back of a trooper's patrol vehicle and then fled the scene.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, State police say a trooper reported that his car was struck from behind in a safety work zone on I-264 westbound, west of Lynnhaven Parkway.

A broadcast was sent out to Virginia Beach police for a 2015 silver Nissan, driven by a black male. Authorities say the vehicle had last been seen by VDOT exiting the interstate at Rosemont Road.

The vehicle has since been located and was reportedly abandoned.

The trooper was not injured during the incident.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash and are attempting to find the driver.
