Red flag warnings go up at the Oceanfront

Red Flag warnings are up due to heavy surf and a strong risk for rip currents

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Red flags have gone up at all beaches in Virginia Beach on Tuesday.

The warnings indicate rough surf and a high risk of rip current. The city asks that you check with a lifeguard before going into the water.

If you ever find yourself in a rip current, don't panic and don't fight the current. Try to swim parallel and out of it. If you can't seem to escape, try to float and tread the water.
