Rescue group bringing animals from Virgin Islands to Hampton Roads

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An animal rescue group will bring hundreds of dogs and cats that survived storms in the Virgin Islands to Hampton Roads.

People with Island Dog Rescue chartered a plane to fly the animals to Norfolk. They expected to arrive with the dogs and cats Monday evening. Then, they will take the animals to Calypso Run Farm on London Bridge Road.

Owner of the farm, Sali Gear, is a former U.S. Navy pilot who grew up riding horses in St. Croix, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Once rescuers get the animals to Calypso Run, and the dogs and cats are treated, the animals will be available for adoption.
