Juvenile shot in Virginia Beach neighborhood

A child was shot and sent to the hospital earlier Thursday morning. But who did it and why is still a mystery.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Investigators are trying to figure out what led to a shooting on Back Acres Court on Thursday morning.

Police received a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Back Acres Court around 9 a.m.

Neighbor Cyndi Novak said it was strange seeing all of the police cars in her cul-de-sac.

"I was awake early when the doorbell rang and it was the police asking if I heard any gunshots," said Novak.

On the scene, officers found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbor Frances Clarke said two boys live in the house with their mother. She explained one boy is in middle school, around 13-years-old and the other boy is around 17 or 18 years old.

They're quiet," said Clarke. "I hardly ever hear them next door...they're good neighbors."

13News Now approached family members but they responded with no comment.

Police said the shooting is under active investigation and cannot release more information at this time.
