NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Newport News' mayor is highlighting the city's recent accomplishments, but also looking forward to future plans.
Mayor McKinley Price addressed hundreds Tuesday afternoon in his State of the City address, Building Our Future One Block At A Time.
He touched on several topics, including their partnership with Ferguson, plans to build a new, multi-modal transportation center off of Bland Boulevard, as well as transforming the Marshall-Ridley neighborhood in the downtown area.
“It's the oldest part in the city, it’s neglected and we're looking forward to reinvesting and re-energizing that community,” Mayor Price says.
The City is using the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative grant to develop a plan to transform that neighborhood.
HUD recently announced there's up to $30-million dollars in grant funds for implementation.
