'Nomarama' takes over local food scene

Food can be comforting and it's a great way to bring people together and two best friends right here in Hampton Roads are trying to do just that.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) --- Jarrell Williams and Mike Curtis are the guys behind Nomarama.

It’s a brand Jarrell created that serves as a support system for local businesses with a focus on food and culture.

“Bottom line is, we’re all here to eat,” said Williams.

Nomarama is gaining traction on social media.

Williams hosts a traveling food show for the local scene, and the movement also includes kitchen takeovers and food competitions.

The hope is that more people will get involved in the scene, especially those who don’t have the budget to start their own business.

“There’s nothing more positive and full of love than getting together around food,” said Davis. “Then talking about other things.”

The group’s next big competition is Saturday, July 8th. They’re calling it “Taco Com,” a taco making competition that will take place at Bold Mariner Brewing Company from 2-6 p.m.
