Accused drunk driver charged in woman's death in Currituck County

CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WVEC) -- North Carolina State Highway Patrol said a driver was intoxicated when he hit and killed a woman who was trying to cross a roadway.

Police arrested 22-year-old Charles Nathaniel Baum of Jarvisburg, N.C. and charged him with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and Driving While Impaired.

Investigators said Baum was driving on South Spot Road in Powells Point around 11:20 p.m. on September 16. Lindsey Anne Parsons of Chesapeake, Va. tried to cross the street when Baum's car hit and killed her.

Baum posted bond and was released from the Currituck County Detention Center.
