WINDSOR, NC (WVEC) -- FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are now open in North Carolina to help the victims of Hurricane Matthew.
Over the weekend, a center opened in Windsor. The goal is to help people, and walk them through the application process.
While it's not required to apply for federal aid, FEMA says even those who have insurance should apply, because they may find out they are underinsured and could be eligible for help.
According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, more than 11,000 people have already received disaster food benefits cards.
If you need help, you can apply through Wednesday. For more information on disaster assistance, including recovery center locations and hours, visit the NC Public Safety website.
