Nansemond-Suffolk Academy student athlete and a father was shot to death in a parking lot in Raleigh.

RALEIGH, NC (WVEC) - A former student and athlete who went to high school in Suffolk was shot and killed Friday night outside a popular restaurant in Raleigh, NC.

Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Anthony Domonique Lennon.

Lennon attended high school and played sports at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy before attending and playing for East Carolina University. Before attending NSA, Lennon played at Landstown High School in, Virginia Beach.

Raleigh police officers responded to the shooting call about 9:45 p.m. outside the Bahama Breeze restaurant at 3309 Wake Forest Road.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots.

"We were sitting and we had finished eating dinner," said Linda Graham, an eyewitness. "And we heard like maybe five to 10 shots, could have been more. And we were looking out, trying to see what was going on, and we saw people running in the parking lot, so they were scattering.

"And then we saw a couple of guys, one running in one direction and the other running in another direction," Graham added.

Graham said she and her party decided to leave the restaurant, and when they went outside, they "walked over to where the ambulance was, and we saw a body on the ground."

The parking lot of the restaurant was roped off with crime scene tape. Many patrons were unable to leave with their vehicles because of the police investigation.

Police have not confirmed any injuries or fatalities or any information about possible suspects.

A GoFundMe page set up by former teammates at NSA had already raised several hundred dollars within hours of being posted.

The message on the page said: "The 2009 Nansemond-Suffolk Academy varsity football team would like to pull together some money to help start a college fund for Domonique's son. Please feel free to donate even if you weren't on the team. Rest In Peace."
