Deadly week on the water

DUCK, N.C. (WVEC) - Officials say the body has been recovered of a man who went missing while he was being pulled on an inner tube behind a boat on Currituck Sound.

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday  that 45-year-old Zandro Samonte of Bergenfield, NJ had gone missing while being pulled behind a pontoon boat on the water near Duck.

A search was suspended after 14 hours and covering 39 square-miles.

On Sunday evening, the Town of Duck confirmed Samonte's body had been located and recovered.  Twiford Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family.

Two other people have drowned on the Outer Banks in the past week. In addition, the search for a 13-year-old who went missing Friday night while swimming in the York River was suspended on Saturday.
