Coast Guard medevacs injured fisherman near Hatteras Inlet

HATTERAS, N.C., (WVEC) -- A fisherman needed Coast Guard's after he was injured by a stingray barb.

Watchstanders received a notification that a crew member aboard the 75-foot fishing vessel Lady Carolyn was injured while the ship was about 1 mile south of the Hatteras Inlet.

Coast Guard took the injured man aboard the 47-foot Motor Lifeboat and returned to Station Hatteras Inlet. The man was then transferred to the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

"The communication between the fishing vessel's crew, Station Hatteras Inlet and our boat crew to quickly get us to this man who urgently needed help greatly expedited our response," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Shawler.
