Missing swimmer's body found in Corolla

Two people died this week after getting pulled from the water on the outer banks.

COROLLA, N.C. (WVEC) -- The body of a missing swimmer was found early Friday morning.

Investigators were searching for a drowning victim starting at 12:29 p.m. on Thursday near the 400 block of Ocean Trail.

The search ended at 12:55 a.m. when police were able to locate the body of a 30-year-old male near the search area.

Twelve lifeguards from Corolla Beach Rescue Life Guard Service were involved in the search as well as aid from the Corolla Volunteer Fire Department, Currituck County Fire &EMS, the US Coast Guard and the Currituck Sheriff's Office.

The US Coast Guard had two helicopters aiding in the search.

Life guards in the area were reporting strong rip currents in the area.

Authorities say the identity of the victim will not be released until the family is notified.
