Carova Beach, N.C. (WVEC) -- A 33-year-old man drowned in the ocean Tuesday has been identified.
Deputy Chief Tim Riley with Currituck County Fire & EMS said Brandon Bryk was swimming alone near Mile Post 15 in the 4X4 area of South Swain's Quarter.
Family members saw that Bryk was having trouble in the water.
He was unconscious and in cardiac arrest when people on the beach pulled him out of the ocean at 3:21 p.m.
Emergency crews from Carova Beach and Corolla Whalehead Station provided advance life support care. They also requested Nightingale Air Ambulance come to the scene, but medics could not revive him.
He died at 4:01 p.m.
Bryk was from Nederland, Colorado.
Riley noted the at the Atlantic Ocean has had strong rip currents and above-average waves for the past few days. He said that Currituck County Fire & EMS is urging people to stay out the water during the dangerous conditions.
