Police: Driver dies after losing control of car in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia State Police say 53-year-old Dove Robert Rodgers died when his car hit several trees after he lost control while driving.

Virginia State Police spokesperson Sgt. Michelle Anaya says the single car accident happened on the evening of July 9.

Anaya says Rodgers was driving South on Route 17, past Cannon Way, when he lost control of the 1992 Chevrolet Blazer, ran off the road into a median and struck several trees.

Rodgers died at Walter Reed Memorial Hospital.

Anaya says Rodgers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. It is unclear whether alcohol played a factor.
