Police: Virginia Beach homicide suspect turns himself in

Zorobabel Griggs, accused of killing a woman, has turned himself in to police. 13News Now Steven Graves spoke with the woman's brother-in-law.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Zorobabel Matthan Griggs, wanted in connection to the death of a Chesapeake woman, has turned himself in.

Griggs is accused of killing 36-year-old Keisa Overby Staton.

Virginia Beach police found Overby Staton's body in an apartment in the 700 block of Gourmet Way just after 10 a.m. on June 12.

Keisa's brother-in-law, Nasheen Staton told 13News Now that Griggs was the father of one of her children.

He said the two had a turbulent relationship.

"You never think it's going to go that far, though," said Staton.

Family was left in the dark about police efforts to find Griggs, said Staton.

A search warrant reveals authorities were tracking emails, texts, GPS and other media in an effort to find him.

It was a step toward closure when family found out Griggs turned himself into police.

"We were jubilant," said Staton. "Ya know, we just buried her a couple of days ago and to have him behind bars was actually a relief."

Griggs is facing Murder and Use of a Firearm charges.

He is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
