Portsmouth man pleads guilty to sex trafficking woman for 9 years

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A man pleaded guilty Tuesday to sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion a woman for 9 years.

Naeem Lateef Odums, 39, from Portsmouth and California forced a woman to engage in commercial sex acts by extreme physical violence, threats of violence, and threats of kidnapping the woman's children.

Odums arranged appointments for the woman using a website known for promoting prostitution.

He would collect all of the money she earned from both appointments and legitimate job.

In January 2017, the woman was hospitalized after Odums broke three ribs and punctured her lung.

Odums faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison when he is sentenced on October 6.
