YORKTOWN, Va. (WVEC) – New facilities are giving military personnel, their families and retired veterans more options.
The Coast Guard, United Service Organizations and the Armed Forces Families Foundation unveiled two new centers at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown on Thursday morning.
The new USO center is one of only two located on a coast guard base anywhere.
The center offers internet, television, video games and more.
There’s also rooms on base which will serve as a new nursing and family care center. Training Center Yorktown is also the first U.S. military base to offer a state-of-the-art nursing facility for mothers.
The updates come at a critical time. Since January, the base has received three times the amount of recruits than normal, a number that's likely to grow.
The Armed Forces Families Foundation, a charity organization helping military families in the southeast, donated more than $35,000 dollars towards the new centers.
