TSA finds handgun in carry-on at Newport News/Williamsburg Int'l Airport

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Transportation Security Administration agents found another handgun in a carry-on bag over the weekend, just five days after stopping a woman carrying a loaded gun through a security checkpoint at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport.

We're told officers detected a "38 special" handgun in a man's carry-on bag on Sunday. Five days prior, they stopped a woman carrying a loaded semi-automatic handgun in her carry-on bag at the same airport.

The gun was seen going through the checkpoint x-ray machine. It wasn't loaded but the carry-on bag was also carrying 15 loose bullets and another 50 bullets in its ammunition box.

The man was cited on a weapons charge after TSA agents contacted airport police and confiscated the gun.

TSA can cite someone up to $12,000 for violating laws related to airport security. A typical first offense could land you a $3,000 charge.
