Two men in Newport News charged with child neglect

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Two men have been charged with child neglect for chasing down a man in their car on Monday.

At 12:45 p.m. police noticed a vehicle stopped in the road. Anthony Jackson (pictured on the left) got out of the car and approached the victim on the sidewalk and argued with the victim.

During the argument Jackson pulled out a handgun.

The victim ran out into the 600 block of Main Street and Jackson returned to his car.

The driver of the car, Kevin Reyes (pictured on the right), and Jackson chased after the victim in their burgundy vehicle.

Responding officers stopped their car on Colberts Lane and detained the men.

Jackson's four year old daughter was in the car the entire time, not in a car seat.

Police arrested 23-year-old Anthony Deshawn Brown Jackson of the 700 block of 21st Street in Newport News for pointing a firearm at a bystander, child neglect, and assault of a family member.

The driver, 19-year-old Kevin Reyes of Rockingham Drive in Hampton has been charged with reckless disregard for a child's life, and generally the endangerment of life and property.

Police did not release any more information.
