WACHAPREAGUE, Va. (Delmarva Now) -- The Coast Guard rescued seven people off the Eastern Shore of Virginia on Sunday, after authorities say their sailboat ran aground.
The guard's Wachapreague station received a call at about 5:30 p.m. that a family and a family friend had become stranded aboard a sailboat near Hog Island. It sent a 24-foot "special purpose craft-shallow water" boat crew to their rescue.
The group was taken back to Willis Wharf in Great Machipongo.
There were no injuries or pollution reported. The incident happened as the outer bands of Hurricane Matthew departed the area.
