POWHATAN, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia State Police trooper killed in the line of duty in Richmond was laid to rest on Saturday.
The funeral for Special Agent Michael Walter was private, however, a reception that followed the service at Powhatan High School was open to the public.

We are also learning more about the moments leading up to the fatal shooting. Court documents reveal a struggle between Special Agent Michael Walter and accused shooter, Travis Ball.
The driver of the car Ball was in says things quickly escalated, and Ball and Walter fought for several moments.
At one point, the driver saw Ball with a gun to Walter's head. That's when he allegedly fired the fatal shot.
Special Agent walter was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Ball is in jail without bond.
