Woman dies following crash in I-95 in Emporia

EMPORIA, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman died Wednesday after her car ran off the roadway and hit several trees on I-95 in Emporia.

State police say they received several calls from citizens reporting pedestrians in the roadway near exit 11 trying to flag people down.

A Trooper went to the scene to investigate and found that a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria ran off the road into the tree line. The three passengers were trying to get medical help for the driver who was unresponsive.

Authorities say all four occupants were taken to the Southern Medical Center in Emporia. The driver, Toni Lashae Clore, 30, of Warrenton, died from her injuries.

An investigation found that Clore was heading northbound on I-95, overcorrected, ran off the roadway and hit several trees.

Clore was wearing her seatbelt and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to state police.
