Making Your Mark: Mom helps kids with Pajama Jams

13News Now LaSalle Blanks has the story

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (WVEC-TV) -- Erika Tucker is a mom on a mission. Every holiday season, she's not only thinking about her children, she's also thinking about children from less-fortunate backgrounds. She started a non-profit called Pajama Jams. It's become her labor of love since 2008.

"There are a lot of children who don't have pajamas at all," Erika said. "Pajamas are a luxury."

Each year, Erika puts the call out to friends and people who they know to donate pajamas to her Pajama Jams non-profit. She also asks friends who own businesses to help out, too. And some of those businesses become Pajama Jams drop-off locations, like Studio Bamboo Institute of Yoga, located at 2861 Lynnhaven Drive in Virginia Beach.

"Oh it means so much," Erika said. "I'm so thankful for their support. They've supported me from the beginning."

Since she began, Erika's effort has resulted in nearly 7,000 pairs of P.J.s being donated to local kids.

"It feels great," Erika said. "It's very rewarding to be able to give back."
