Man extricated from his car after crash in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A driver had to be cut from his car after a multi-vehicle crash Friday night. 

The accident happened in the 5000 block of Bennetts Pasture Road in the Schooner Cove neighborhood. 

According to police, around 9:22 p.m. a Volkswagen Jetta was driving towards Bridge Road when the driver crossed into the other lane, he over-corrected and struck the passenger side of a Ford Expedition. 

Fire & Rescue had to extricate the driver of the Jetta. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. 

The driver and passenger of the SUV were not inured. 

Traffic was closed in both directions on Bennetts Pasture Road while crews worked the scene. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
