Man sentenced to life plus 53 years for robbery, murder outside Va. Beach strip club

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A 28-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison, plus more than 50 years for the murder and robbery of 25-year-old Paul Abbey outside of a strip club in 2015.

28-year-old Timothy Josaahn Watson was convicted of First Degree Felony Murder, Robbery, Use of a Firearm, and Conspiracy. He was found guilty in March 2017. He now faces a life sentence plus 53 years in prison and a fine of $100,000.

The charges stem from an incident that happened outside of Cheetah's Gentleman's Club. Watson and a group of friends were in the parking lot when they first came across Paul Abbey and his friends. Waton's buddy, Raiquan Lamont Turner, asked Abbey for a cigarette and made some small talk. Eventually both groups went into the club and had drinks.

Watson and his friends were outside when he said he wanted to rob someone because he needed the money and Turner agreed.

Abbey and his friend were walking to their car when Turner and Watson approached them with a gun.

During the robbery Abbey was shot in the neck and his friend was grazed by a bullet in the head.

Turner and Watson went through the victims' pockets before running back to their car.

Abbey died a the scene.

Watson, Turner, and a third man Keith Mitchell, who was driving the car, were identified using surveillance footage.

Turner was convicted of First Degree Felony Murder, Robbery, Use of a Firearm, and Conspiracy. He was sentenced to three life terms, plus 18 years in prison.

Mitchell pled guilty to Accessory After the Fact - Homicide and was sentenced to five years in prison, with four years suspended.
