Fleet Week 2016 under way in NYC

Five Navy warships,  two Coast Guard cutters and a Marine expeditionary unit are converging on the Big Apple for Fleet Week.

The festivities from May 25-31 will feature as many 4,500 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as Royal Canadian sailors and Naval Academy midshipmen. Ship tours are available most days at the ships. Check for info on Fleet Week's official website. The parade of ships that kicks off the festivities on Wednesday.

Representing Hampton Roads are the USS Bataan, USS Bainbridge, and the USCGC Forward.  

The Bataan posted a Facebook Live video of its arrival in the Big Apple.

 

The Navy and Marine participation, according to Fleet Week organizers:

  • Amphibious assault ship Bataan, berthed at Pier 888 in Manhattan.
  • 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, at Pier 888.
  • Destroyers Farragut and Bainbridge, at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
  • Dock landing ship Fort McHenry, at USS The Sullivans Homeport Pier, Staten Island.
  • Coastal patrol ship Shamal, USS The Sullivans Homeport Pier, Staten Island.
  • Four Naval Academy yard patrol training boats.

Coast Guard:

  • Seagoing buoy tender Juniper, at Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.
  • Medium endurance cutter Forward, at Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Royal Canadian Navy ships:

  • Destroyer Athabaskan, at Pier 92S in Manhattan.
  • Coastal defense vessels Kingston and Moncton, at Pier 92S in Manhattan.
  • Submarine Windsor, at Pier 92S in Manhattan.
