The Devon Grube Memorial BBQ Classic kicks off this weekend

Navy Seal Devon Grube passed away last year -- but his memory lives on.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A barbeque competition, live music, food trucks, adult beverages and more will be at the 1st annual Devon Grube Memorial BBQ Classic starting October 6.

The three-day benefit event is to tribute memorial to a highly decorated Navy SEAL, Devon Grube from Virginia Beach.

24 Kansas City BBQ Society teams will be competing for $10,000 in prizes. Fourteen teems from Virginia and 4 from North Carolina will be competing.

At the KOA Holiday Campground in Virginia Beach, six bands will be playing throughout the weekend. Celeste Kellogg and David Cynar Band will preform Friday, Hard Knox and Quarter Horse are playing on Saturday, and Little Country and Brian Grilli will close out the event on Sunday.

The event kicks off Friday, October 6 at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the gate.

Proceeds from the Devon Grube Memorial BBQ Classic will benefit families of fallen service members through the Navy SEAL Foundation and Operation Once Upon a Lifetime, and Devon Grube's family.

Devon Grube lost his life in December of 2016. He lived in Virginia Beach, and when he completed basic training he spent a year in Norfolk, Va on the USS Roosevelt as an Electrician's Mate.

Devon is survived by his wife Margie and three children.
