Motorcyclist thrown from bike, dies after crash with SUV in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A motorcyclist was killed after being thrown from his bike during a crash Wednesday evening.

According to police, the crash happened in the 6600 block of N. Military Highway near Longdale Drive just before 8:30 p.m.

When emergency crews arrived they found a 58-year-old man lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe a Ford SUV was trying to make a left turn when the driver struck the motorcyclist traveling in the southbound lanes. The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike during the collision.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in this accident.

The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old woman, stayed on scene and was not injured.

The Traffic Fatality Team is investigating. Their findings will determine whether or not charges will be filed.
