JACKSONVILLE, FL (WTLV) -- Five people were shot, three are dead -- including an infant -- after a shooting at a food mart in the Moncrief area of Jacksonville on Sunday night, police say.
Four people were shot inside a car -- one man, two women and an infant -- on Cleveland Road off Moncrief. A woman died in the car before anyone could be taken to a hospital. The other three, including the infant, were taken to UF Health, where the infant and other woman died a short time later, says Director of Investigations and Homeland Security for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Ron Lundeay.
Another woman arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound from the same shooting, Lundeay says.
The shooting happened at 6:07 p.m. and could be related to an earlier dispute between two women, but police are still investigating and can't say for sure. All five victims were shot by a handgun, Lundeay says.
Police say they are not sure if five is the total number of victims; Lundeay says others may have been shot but they can't say definitively.
"It's a sad day for Jacksonville," Lundeay says of the shooting, "it's a sad day for this area and for the officers working this scene."
Detectives and officers are on scene, looking for and interviewing witnesses, canvassing the neighborhood and processing evidence.
