One dead, one hurt after shooting in James City County

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said Tuesday that one of two men shot at an apartment complex Monday died from his injuries.

Officers said 20-year-old Adren Raheem Garnett and an 18-year-old were in a fight with several people at Burnt Ordinary Apartments in Toano. The fight led to gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found Garnett and the other man shot in the 7900 block of Sterling Court. Garnett, who was shot in his chest, died at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

The 18-year-old had a wound to his leg. Medics took him to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital and then flew him to Riverside Regional Medical Center. He should survive.

Neither man lived at the apartments.

Investigators believe more than one person opened fire during the fight. They said the back of the building at 7801 Weymouth Court and at least two cars were hit by bullets.
