Over 1 million people traveling in Va. Beach 4th of July weekend

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- AAA expects over 1.2 million people across Virginia Beach to hit the road while celebrating the 4th of July.

A majority of the travelers, about 1.07 million, will be traveling during the long weekend.

AAA reminds everyone to check their oil, battery, radiator, tires, windshield wipers, lights and signals, and their emergency kits before traveling.

“This Independence Day, families in Virginia will celebrate our nation’s freedom with friends and family,” said Georjeane Blumling, Vice President of Public Affairs for AAA Tidewater Virginia. “Independence Day is typically the busiest summer travel holiday for this reason, and more Virginian families are planning a holiday getaway using automobile as their mode of transportation.”

With temperatures rising, it is recommended for drivers to keep bottled water in their car.

Before hitting the road check the weather forecast, buckle your seatbelt, and keep your hands on the wheel.
