HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left two people dead Friday afternoon.
Just after 2 p.m. a police officer saw a white sedan in the 1300 block of West Queen St. committing a traffic infraction. The officer attempted to pull the driver over, and the sedan immediately sped away, causing the officer to lose sight of the car.
After turning onto Salters Creek Road in search of the sedan, the officer found that, while fleeing from police, the sedan collided with another car.
The officer looked for survivors and found two people with life-threatening injuries inside the white sedan, and immediately began life-saving efforts.
While being transported by Sentara Healthcare's Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, the passenger of the white sedan died from their injuries.
The passenger was identified as 28-year-old James Jarrett from Waverly.
The driver, Raymond Faunteleroy, 22, from Hampton was taken to a local area hospital where they later died.
The driver of the other car was also taken to a local hospital, and is expected to be OK.
The crash is under investigation by members of the Accident Reconstruction Team.
