HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are investigating the death of a man as a homicide Thursday night.

Police say they first received a call of shots fired in the 1100 block of Quash Street at about 9:42 p.m.  As officers were responding, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Arriving police and medics found 27-year-old Travis Wardrick of Newport News suffering from a single gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 17-year-old was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Investigators say the teen and Wadrick knew each other and were involved in a fight just before the shooting.

The teen has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.

Just weeks ago, Quash Street was the site of another deadly shooting.

Jerrod Brown was gunned down back on March 28. The 30-year-old was the city's first homicide victim of the year.

If you have any information on these homicides, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. All callers will remain anonymous and if the information that is provided leads to the arrest of an individual than the caller may be eligible to receive an award of up to $1,000.
