NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Ed Gillespie, Republican nominee for Virginia governor, is not saying if he's pleased with the endorsement he received from President Donald Trump.
Trump endorsed Gillespie in a tweet on October 5. The president also took a swipe at Democtratic nominee Lt. Governor Ralph Northam in the tweet.
When asked if he's happy with the Trump endorsement, Gillespie said, "I appreciate the president endorsing me. He's the Republican president, obviously. I'm the Republican nominee. I wasn't surprised he endorsed me."
The former Republican National Committee chairman also stopped short of saying he wants the presdient to campaign with him.
"I don't talk about campaign strategy with anyone, let alone the media," Gillespie said during a visit to 13News Now on Thursday.
Gillespie said he's excited to have Vice President Mike Pence join him on the campaign trail on October 18 in Abingdon.
Democrat Hillary Clinton won Virginia in the 2016 presidential election, beating Trump by 5.4 percentage points.
