NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- We are less than a month before the election for Virginia's next governor, and a new poll is out showing a tightening race between the two front-runners.
The poll from the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University shows 48 percent of likely voters surveyed are in favor of Democrat Ralph Northam, while 44 percent of those polled like Republican Ed Gillespie. Northam's lead has narrowed from last week, where the CNU poll showed him leading, 49 to 42 percent.
The survey's margin of error is +/- 4.2 percent.
The Wason Center says this is the first tracking poll in which Northam's numbers dipped while Gillespie's increased. It is also the first poll to have Northam's lead fall within the margin-of-error.
Election Day is November 7, 2017.
