Va. campaign ad draws outrage on social media

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A controversial campaign ad featuring a group of minority kids being chased down by a truck flying a Confederate flag and donning a Gillespie bumper sticker has put one political committee in hot water on social media.

It's only a minute, but the video that the Latino Victory Fund released Monday on Twitter has drawn a lot of attention as the Virginia governor's race comes to a close and the election nears.

The video shows a man driving a pick-up truck chasing down four minority children through a neighborhood. Turns out, the whole scene was a nightmare all of the children experienced.

At the end of the video, the narrator says, "Is this what Donald Trump and Ed Gillespie mean by the American dream?"

David Abrams, a spokesman for the Ed Gillespie campaign, responded to the video saying, "This is sickening. A vile ad from a desperate campaign."

Other Twitter users offered mixed reactions, most of them appalled by the video's message:

The gubernatorial election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
