PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Two beer lovers are putting the finishing touches on their brewery Thursday night before its grand opening Friday in Portsmouth.

MoMac Brewing Company has been in the works since last October.

"On the side we brewed craft beer with our friend and we decided it was time," said Scott Krick, one of the co-owners.

Over the last 5 years, these home brewers got out of hand. It started out with one pot and kept growing.

"We knew we had fun and that's important. It's hard work and we knew this area had an opportunity for it," he said.

Their hobby grew into MoMac Brewing Company. It's the only brewery in the city.

"We knew this area really needed something," said Krick.

"It took a while but it's coming together," said Rob Hess, the other co-owner.

Sitting on Academy Avenue right of 164, it straddles three city lines - Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Suffolk - not far from home for these guys.

Not only is it a perfect spot for their business with all the room and parking spaces, but it's a central locations for residents in all three cities.

As they plan for the big opening day, they said their excitement is building.

"It's going to be chaos, but it's going to be fun," said Krick.

On Friday, opening day, there will be food trucks and music.

Mayor John Rowe tweeted that he will be there. The ribbon cutting is at 2:30 p.m. and doors open to the public at 3:00 p.m.
