CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WVEC) -- A student in Chesterfield has been suspended for nine weeks after she brought off-brand Tylenol to school.
NBC12 reports the student, a sophomore at LC Bird High School, was previously suspended for having marijuana.
That suspension lasted less than 10 days.
The school handbook clearly states you cannot bring prescription or over-the-counter medicine to school.
Despite that, experts say the kind of disciplinary action the student has received can be detrimental to her education.
The student's father expressed frustration with the length of his child's punishment and put in an appeal for the suspension to lower the time spent out of school.
