Road closing from June to November that runs over Ragged Island Creek

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (Daily Press) -- Route 662, Whippingham Parkway, in Isle of Wight County will be closed beginning Monday through November while the Virginia Department of Transportation replaces a bridge that runs over Ragged Island Creek in Carrollton.

Detours via Route 17 and Channell Way, Route 663, will be marked, according to VDOT.

The $1.9 million project includes replacing two pre-existing box culverts in the area over the creek with a two-lane bridge. Crews will dig up and remove two large pipe culverts, and the area below the bridge will become an open channel, allowing water to flow freely back and forth, according to Dave Froster, a senior communications specialist with VDOT.

Smith can be reached by phone at 757-510-1663.
