Search on for motorcyclist after police officers struck in Union City

UNION CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Authorities are searching for a motorcyclist after three Union City police officers were hit and injured on Wednesday night.

The officers were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive.

It happened as the officers were investigating a teenage bicyclist that was hit by a garbage truck near Palisade Avenue and 30th Street around 9 p.m.

The teen was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Two motorcyclists were driving together through the crime scene and one struck the officers.

One of the motorcyclists fled the scene, while the other also crashed into the garbage truck that was involved in the initial accident.

That motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police have been talking to that motorcyclist to gather more information.

At this point, it's not yet clear which of the motorcyclists hit the officers.
