SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have opened an investigation after skeletal remains were found, Tuesday afternoon.
The remains were found just before 3 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. The cemetery is located in the 8300 block of Crittenden Rd.
The remains are believed to possibly be human, and are not associated with a vault at the cemetery.
After reviewing the remains, Suffolk police say there is no reason to believe foul play was involved.
Graves at the cemetery date back as far as as a century or more in certain parts of the cemetery.
Erosion has begun at certain parts of the cemetery due to construction renovations, those renovations have stopped while the investigation continues.
