Soldier from Wasilla dies of wounds suffered in Afghanistan

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Army says an Alaska soldier serving in Afghanistan has died.

The Department of Defense says 19-year-old Pfc. Hansen Kirkpatrick of Wasilla died Monday in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was wounded in what the Defense Department says was an indirect fire attack. The incident is under investigation.

Kirkpatrick was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.
