Stolen boat, robbed restaurant, one arrested in Va. Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A Virginia Beach man has been arrested in connection to two unrelated commercial burglaries.

On Tuesday at 1:25 a.m. a citizen reported their boat had been stolen. The boat's GPS system indicated the boat was no longer at the dock slip.

The citizen went to the dock, located at 600 Laskin Road, to find that the said boat was really missing.

Following the boat's GPS the citizen was able to give updates to responding officials.

Uniform officers, with the assistance of the department's Aviation Unit and K9 unit, they were able to locate and arrest the suspect without incident.

The suspect is Jason Lawrence Wirt, 45, of Virginia Beach.

During the stolen boat investigation, police optained information that led them to believe the suspect was connected to another burglary that happened on July 9.

Around 9 a.m. workers of the American Roadside Grill, located at 981 Laskin Road, noticed the restaurant was broken into and had several items stolen.

Survailance video showed a white male suspect inside the business at 4:21 a.m., leave the business, but return later in different clothes.

Police have charged Wirt with grand larceny and breaking and entery for the boat incident on Tuesday. For the restaurant robbery on July 9 he has been charged with breaking and entering, grand larceny and possession of burglarious tools.

Wirt is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
