NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A 17-year-old girl reported to police that she was stabbed, and sprayed with pepper spray, while walking to school, Wednesday.

Officers reported to a home in the 300 block of Tower Ln. just after 9 a.m.

The teen told police that she decided to walk to school after she missed the bus. She took a path in by the woods that other students use frequently, when an unknown black man came up behind her and mumbled something that she didn't understand. The suspect took out a knife and swung at the victim, curing her arm. The teen attempted to use pepper spray in self-defense, but the suspect took it and sprayed the victim instead.

The victim then ran into a neighbors yard, those neighbors called police. The man was no longer there when police arrived.

Police searched the scene and found a knife and the pepper spray. The suspect has not yet been located.

The suspect is described as a black man with a skinny build. He is approximately 5'10" tall, and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and sweatpants.

The victim was treated for the cut on her arm at the scene.
