NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) – Three hotels on J. Clyde Morris Blvd. were robbed in less than a week. The latest robbery happened at the Quality Inn early Tuesday morning.

A guest at the hotel told 13News Now he ran into the robber before and after the crime was committed.

“So this morning I was standing outside just grabbing a quick cigarette-- probably around 5:30 this morning. A gentleman walked around the corner of the tractor trailer and we kind of surprised each other,” he said.

He said the man seemed suspicious, so he kept watching him.

“He walked up towards the front of the hotel. Well about two minutes later he went running past me, and I noticed him because he was holding his pants up as he was running away,” he said.

Within minutes he heard the police sirens.

“It was at that point I learned that he (suspect) had walked up to the front of the hotel, held up a gun and robbed them,” he said.

He was able to get a pretty good description of the robber and told police which way he saw him run.

“He ran back behind the hotel back towards the apartments back there. The police got here really fast and they brought the dogs out-- or one dog and then they searched the area with the dog,” he said.

The Point Plaza Hotel across the street and the Country Inn and Suites down the road were also hit last week. Police are now trying to find out if Tuesday morning’s robber is responsible for the other two.

“That’s the scary part as well, because it shows a pattern. And it shows that this guy is not gonna stop until he’s stopped, and that’s scary. Hopefully the police catch him quick before he does hurt somebody,” he said.

Police say the robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the Quality Inn and ran toward Travers Drive.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’10”-6’0”, 240-260 pounds, about 40 years of age, with a light beard, close-cut hair, medium brown complexion, last seen wearing a blue short-sleeve shirt with white stripes, blue jeans, white shoes, and a blue/white bandana over his face; armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun.
