Trump removes 'climate change' as threat to U.S. security

The President's newly unveiled National Security Strategy omits the phrase as one of the threats facing our country.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC)-- For the first time in at least 14 years the phrase "climate change" is not listed as a threat to the country.

President Donald J. Trump has  deleted "climate change" from the list of worldwide threats facing the United States in his new National Security Strategy.

Retired Navy Captain Ray Toll holds a Masters of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School, and serves as Old Dominion University's director of coastal resilience research.

He says there's a direct link between recurrent flooding  and, the military's ability to fight wars and defend the nation.

"Absolutely," he said. "The Navy's job here in Norfolk is to man, train and equip. If you can't get your crews to the ships and train them to fight the Global War on Terror, you slow down your ability to move to forward-deployed areas, which is the Navy's mission."
