Two separate accidents bring down power lines in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) --  Two individual accidents brought down power lines in Suffolk Friday morning.

At 1:08 a.m., police received a call about an accident involving a passenger vehicle in the 6300 block of Whaleyville Boulevard.

The car left the roadway and struck a power pole. The driver was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The second accident involved a tractor trailer that also struck the downed lines and shattered its windshield.

The driver was not injured.

A detour for northbound traffic is set up at Great Fork Road to Little Fork Road, and crews from Dominion Virginia Power are on scene repairing the downed pole.

As a result of the accident, approximately 165 customers are currently without power.

Along the detour route, another single vehicle accident occurred at approximately 5:43 a.m. when a tractor trailer left the roadway and is partially turned over a ditch.
