Virginia Beach City Council hosting public meeting, City Hall renovations

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia Beach's City Council is expected to host a public community meeting on Wednesday to get input about City Hall's renovations.

The near-50-year-old structure requires major renovations, like electrical, mechanical and plumbing replacements, more space, and the building is full of asbestos.

The City says it needs about 70,000 more square feet to accommodate employees and services for the Virginia Beach residents.

City Council has 2 renovation options after deciding they will not be moving to Town Center.

Option one is to construct a new building at the municipal center, or option two is to renovate and extend the current building.

The open City Hall 2020 Community Meeting on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. will give the public a chance to give their input on this project.

The meeting will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

For those unable to attend in person, a virtual meeting will be held on Facebook Live from 5 to 6 p.m..

The next City Hall 2020 Community Meeting will be held on August, 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Westin Hotel Ballroom.

More information about the renovation can be found HERE.
