Woman charged in connection with Chesapeake fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have arrested and charged Katchona Elicia Johnson, 31, in connection with a fire that left three people injured and displaced at least 10.

One person jumped from a second story window and was injured, while  the other two occupants were treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were called to the 1300 block of Ivy Trail at 2:56 a.m., and arrived on the scene at 3:06 a.m.

They found a two-story apartment complex with smoke and flames coming from the front of the structure.

Crews entered the apartment, and the fire was under control by 3:32 a.m. In total, 9 units had smoke and heat damage.

The three people who were transferred to the hospital have non-life threatening injuries.

Johnson has been charged with communicating a threat to burn a dwelling and arson of an occupied dwelling. Both are felony charges.
