Woman sentenced for giving heroin to victim who later died of an overdose

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison for her role in an overdose death Thursday.

In March, 38-year-old Julie Rae Rock pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an overdose in November 2015.

According to court documents, Rock bought heroin that contained fentanyl from Robert Alan Durkee. She met with the victim, identified only at E.H., at a hotel where she handed over the drugs.

E.H. fell to ground almost immediately afterwards. Rock left him and hotel staff later found his body.

E.H.'s cause of death was ruled to be acute combined heroin and fentanyl intoxication.

Durkee was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in the overdose death earlier this month.
